LCD Screens
The Basics
A computer display monitor, usually just called a monitor, is a device which
displays viewable images generated by a computer without producing a
permanent record. A computer display screen is usually either a cathode ray
tube or a flat panel such as a liquid crystal display LCD Screen. The
monitor comprises the display device, the circuitry to generate a picture
from electronic signals transmitted by the computer, and a casing. Within
the computer, either as an integral part or a plugged-in interface, there is
circuitry to convert internal data to a format compatible with a monitor.
Laptop LCD screens are primarily supplied as liquid crystal display. This is essentially a thin, flat display device made up of any number of color or monochrome pixels arranged in front of a light source or reflector. It is an ideal output mechanism for laptops as it uses very small amounts of electric power, and is therefore suitable for use in battery-powered electronic devices.
Did you know..?
Presently, laptop LCD screens are commonly available in two types, the
anti-glare surface or anti-reflective surface and they have their respective
pros and cons.
Traditionally laptop LCD screen have had a matte "anti-glare" finish to scatter reflected light. This has the side effect of scattering the light from the display, increasing blur and reducing contrast ratio, color intensity, and viewing angle. Reflections of external light sources are not diffused by anti-reflective LCD screens, so certain lighting conditions tend to favor a traditional, anti-glare screen. They are well suited to the office arena, where there is a lot of light, or anywhere bright, as well the outdoors. It is generally better for the outdoors or indoor environments with brighter or direct light. Anti-reflective laptop LCD screens use polarization and an optical coating to reduce the amount of external light reflecting from the surface without affecting light emanating from the laptop LCD screen. In controlled environments, where bright, direct reflections can be mitigated, an anti-reflective laptop LCD screen may be more enjoyable for the viewer- for example multimedia applications.
Regardless the anti-reflective, glossy LCD screens for laptops are overall, particularly popular because the image quality is much higher - sharper, brighter, more enriched.
